After a fall from grace, an ex-famous dishwasher begins working in a cafe owned by Rivkah, a proud Jewish woman. Together, they confront his past as he learns to accept his Jewish identity, falling in love in the process.
Our idea:
Our film explores the challenging journey of accepting your identity and being honest with who you are. This is framed through a heartwarming and touching love story revolving around the themes of ancestry and cultural assimilation.
After being bullied for being Jewish, our central character, Mo, is now having to come to terms with his identity when he meets Rivkah - a proud, Jewish cafe owner. As they spend more time with each other, a romance blossoms.
We aim to represent British-Jewish identity in a nuanced and sensitive fashion, exploring the complexities of cultural conformity in a contemperary setting. Our film tells the universal story of self-discovery, allowing our audience to resonate with either Mo or Rivkah. We hope to create a film with Jewish characters that challanges the stereotypical representations; to embrace the culture and leave the audience uplifted.
Stylistically, our film will be taking inspiration from classic romance films and merging it with the aesthetics of European Arthouse cinema and Kinetic New Hollywood cinema.
